October Half Term Events in the North East

Friday 15th September, 2023 by Host & Stay

Planning a stay for the whole family in the North East for the October half term holidays? Let us inspire your trip! Keep reading to find our selection of events and activities to make the most of your trip.

Halloween Evenings at Beamish | 27th, 28th & 31st October

Beamish is one of our favourite attractions in the North East. This spectacular open air museum delves into the history of North East of England throughout the early 1900s. A fantastic place to visit for children and adults alike, Beamish has plenty to discover including a traditional fairground and a tramway.

This year there will be spooktacular Halloween evenings where the museum is transformed into the Un-Living Museum of the North. Tickets aren’t for sale just yet but they should be available soon here. Whether you’re visiting for Halloween specifically or just looking for a fun-filled day out, we’d certainly recommend Beamish!

Pumpkin Festival at Adventure Valley | 28th – 31st October

Pumpkin Festival returns again this year at Adventure Valley in Durham! The perfect event for celebrating halloween, kids can choose their own pumpkin and carve it before launching the corn cob catapult and enjoying the magic show. There are also bird of prey displays and ghastly ghost hunts where little ones can win prizes! If you’re wanting to burn off their energy, kids will love exploring the 18,000 square feet of indoor play in the indoor play town. The fun doesn’t end there though! There are goats which can be hand fed as well llamas, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs and more to see!

Book your tickets here – kids over 2 years old will get a free pumpkin on entry!

North Pennines Stargazing Festival 2023 | 20th October – 5th November

The North Pennines Stargazing Festival returns this year in celebration of the incredible dark skies in The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO Global Geopark. The festival has plenty of events throughout the October half term holidays spread across the North Pennines, Durham Dales and beyond. A truly magical place, it’s perfect for young astronomers.

Children will love the Storytelling and Stars at Hannah’s Meadow event which involves a laser-guided tour of the night skies with local astronomer Neill Sanders. Another fantastic event is the Family Astronomy at Grassholme Observatory which is back due to popular demand! Little ones will love visiting one of the UK’s newest observatories and hold meteorites from space.
