Wednesday 22nd June, 2022 by hs-admin

Richmond is full to the brim with history, and that’s not only its architecture. This North Yorkshire market town offers everything from Parisian inspired treats to local Yorkshire grub. There’s eateries aplenty, with somewhere to suit everyone.

So, where would we recommend to anyone visiting the area?

Rustique Restaurant

Take a trip down Richmond’s Finkle Street and you’ll find a small corner of North-East England that will transport you directly to France.

Rustique restaurant has offered traditional French cuisine to locals since 2009. With its Parisian-style decor and vibrant bistro area, you’ll dine with views of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe as if you were only a stone’s throw away.

Offering an à la carte menu, a set menu and a lunch menu with a varied selection of traditionally cooked and locally sourced meat and fish dishes, you’ll be truly spoilt for choice.

Cross View Tea Rooms

Only a  two-minute walk from the history-filled Green Howards Museum you’ll find Cross View Tea Rooms, a traditional English eatery with everything from tasty scones and mouthwatering pies to an array of sandwiches and puddings.

Walk into the tea rooms and you’ll be instantly greeted by a warm atmosphere and traditional decor that makes you feel right at home, no matter where you’re visiting from. You’ll find fresh flowers, crisp blue tablecloths and pale yellow walls that complement the picturesque storefront.

Cross View has been proudly serving the residents and tourists of Richmond with traditional home-baked goods for over 30 years.

With seating for up to 60 people, Cross View can cater for everyone, from those simply looking to relax with a fresh cup of coffee, right through to bustling groups of tourists looking for a hearty meal in a quintessentially English venue.

The White Swan

Built in 1787, the White Swan has always maintained its friendly, warm atmosphere. Despite being only a few minutes’ walk from Richmond centre, you still get the impression of being in a small, quiet and picturesque nook of the town.

No matter the season you’ll feel right at home relaxing in the secluded sun-trap garden or warming yourselves around the open fires.

Food is very much part of The White Swan and their freshly produced menu can cater for all needs, including dogs, who are more than welcome to join their owners for a spot of lunch after a walk around the town.

You’ll find an extensive and appetising lunch and evening menu, with a special menu on a Sunday with their infamous classic Sunday roasts!

Bookings are available at both lunch and dinner, and at weekends are advisable.

Mocha

If you have a sweet tooth, visiting Mocha is a must!

Located in the iconic Trinity Church Square, Mocha is every chocolate lover’s dream come true. You’ll find a shop full of handcrafted chocolates and gifts, chocolate-making classes and a cafe where you can sit and unwind whilst tasting their specialities.

Their extensive menu offers everything from artisan hot chocolates in flavours like orange, black forest gateau and salted caramel to bagels and scrumptious doorstep sandwiches, as well as traditional Yorkshire rarebit and soup.

Mocha caters to those with allergies too, with dairy-free spread and gluten-free bread available on request.

The Noted Pie Shop

With reviews of The Noted Pie Shop describing it as “the best pies in the north”, this is a place not to be missed.

Located right in the centre of Richmond’s iconic marketplace, you’ll find almost every type of pie. From steak, cheese, corned beef, and traditional pork to unique chicken curry pies and more! There are also homemade quiches, scotch eggs and a vast cut meat selection on offer too.

Pop in, grab a pie (or two) and sit in the picturesque Friary Gardens, just a two-minute walk away.
